Biotechnology

Biotechnology

As people, we’re naturally suspicious of change. Any new technology is always met with skepticism, and even fear—especially when it comes to biotechnology. Biotechnology is something humans have always engaged in, but the changes have become more rapid and advanced in recent years.

Biotechnology is a field that involves manipulating organisms to behave in a certain way. It’s how we’ve created genetically modified produce that does not require the use of as many pesticides. It also plays a key role in the field of medicine, helping to create innovative and effective treatments.

Despite the positive impact, public opinion on biotechnology remains split. Many remain skeptical and worried about overreach and unexpected negative consequences. Many Americans do not support cell research. Some of the public also has doubts about eating genetically modified produce. These opinions, both good and bad, affect regulations and legislation.

The industry, which is heavily regulated, does need to be concerned with ethics and should be scrutinized, it is important that people form their opinions based on fact rather than fear. After all—if fear is allowed to rule, progress will stall—and we might not get to enjoy the benefits of what biotech researchers are working so hard to bring us.
